Sonic Sound was pleased to provide professional sound reinforcement for a special live music performance at the Wellington Film Festival, held at the Wellesley Cinema on Saturday 4th October 2025.

The event brought live music and film together, with several local sea shanty groups performing ahead of a screening of Fisherman’s Friends. As with many live events, the final performance format evolved on the day. The original hire was based around four wireless handheld microphones for vocal reinforcement, however the performance ultimately expanded to include larger groups of singers accompanied by an acoustic guitar.

Thanks to careful planning and experience working in dynamic live environments, Sonic Sound was able to adapt the system at short notice, providing the additional inputs and coverage needed to support the revised setup. We routinely carry spare equipment in our vehicle, allowing us to respond quickly to last‑minute changes with minimal impact on the schedule or the event itself.

Delivering live sound in a cinema presents its own challenges, requiring control, clarity, and sensitivity to the space. The final system provided general microphone coverage for rotating groups of singers, while ensuring both vocals and acoustic guitar were clearly heard without overwhelming the room or disrupting the cinematic atmosphere.

Installation was completed earlier in the day to fit around the cinema’s operating schedule, with a single Sonic Sound technician managing setup and live operation. On the night, the focus remained firmly on the performers and the audience experience – exactly where it should be.
